Showout Privacy Policy

DRAFT — NOT YET IN EFFECT. This self-authored working draft must not be published or treated as release-ready until the canonical URL and contact aliases are live, the storefront deployment matches the disclosures below, and the effective date is set.

Effective date: [EFFECTIVE DATE]

This policy explains what personal information the Showout desktop application ("Showout", "the Software") and its makers, Showout LLC ("we", "us"), collect, why, and what choices you have. It covers the application itself. Purchases are handled by our payment provider under its own privacy policy, as described below.

Questions or requests: [email protected].

1. The short version

Showout is a desktop tool for live visuals and projection mapping. It is built to respect your privacy:

  • No account is required, and there is no user profile, login, or cloud sync.
  • Your creative work stays on your computer. Your media, presets, settings, and project data are never transmitted to us.
  • We do not run analytics, advertising, tracking pixels, or usage telemetry.
  • The first paid release makes internet requests to us or our service providers for two narrow purposes: activating and validating your license and checking for a newer version. It is not configured to upload crash reports.
  • Optional operator-enabled LAN features are separate from those service requests: OSC can receive control messages, and NDI-enabled builds can discover and receive video sources. These connections are described in Section 7 and do not send your project or media to us.

The rest of this policy describes each of those in detail.

2. Information that never leaves your device

The following are stored only on your computer and are never sent to us or any third party by the Software:

  • Video, image, and other media you load.
  • Presets, clip banks, layouts, warp/calibration settings, and project files.
  • Application settings and preferences.
  • Cached thumbnails and rendering caches.
  • Raw local crash records. If a crash is captured, a full local record is written to your device for your own troubleshooting. It stays on your machine and is not uploaded by the first paid release. You may deliberately export a scrubbed report to a file that you control, as described in Section 5.

You can delete any of this at any time through your operating system's file manager.

3. Purchases and payment

Purchases of a Showout license are processed by Lemon Squeezy, which acts as the merchant of record for the sale. When you buy a license, Lemon Squeezy — not us — collects and processes the information needed to complete the transaction, which typically includes your name, email address, payment details, and the billing location used to calculate tax. Lemon Squeezy handles billing, VAT/sales tax, and refunds under its own terms and privacy policy. We never receive or store your full payment card details.

From Lemon Squeezy we receive the limited order and license information needed to support you and to issue and validate your license — for example your email address, the product/tier purchased, and the associated license key. We use it to deliver your license, provide support, and honor refunds and license changes.

Please review Lemon Squeezy's privacy policy for how it processes purchase data: https://www.lemonsqueezy.com/privacy.

4. License activation and validation

Showout uses a simple online license check so that a paid license can be activated on your devices and moved between them.

  • When you activate a license, the Software sends your license key and an instance label that identifies the device (by default, your computer's host name) to Lemon Squeezy's license service. In return it receives an activation identifier for that device.
  • The Software periodically re-validates the license over the network by sending the license key and that activation identifier, so that a lapsed, refunded, or revoked license can return the Software to watermarked evaluation mode.
  • When you deactivate a device, the Software releases that activation so it can be used on another device.

Locally, the Software stores your license key, the activation identifier, your tier, and the time of the last successful validation, so it can keep working offline for a grace period between checks. This information is used only to run the license check — it is not combined into any profile and is not used for advertising or analytics.

5. Local crash and error diagnostics

Showout can capture a crash or run-failure record on your device for troubleshooting. The first paid release is not configured with a customer crash-upload endpoint and does not transmit these records to us or to a crash-reporting provider.

From the Diagnostics screen, you may deliberately export a scrubbed report to a file that you control. The export can contain:

  • The type of failure (a crash or a run failure) and a capture timestamp.
  • The application version and build identifier.
  • A redacted summary of the error and a redacted stack trace, with file paths, host names, IP addresses, email addresses, and device/source names removed or replaced with generic placeholders.
  • A general description of your operating system and version.
  • Technical details about your graphics hardware (adapter name, driver, and the graphics API in use) to help reproduce rendering issues.

The exported report does not include your media, presets, settings, project data, name, email, an IP-address field, or file contents. Exporting creates a local file; it does not send that file anywhere. You decide whether and how to share it.

If a future release adds built-in crash upload, we will update this policy before shipping that capability and will require an explicit opt-in before any report is sent.

6. Checking for updates

Showout can check whether a newer version is available. When it does, it makes a standard web request to our update endpoint. As with any web request, this discloses your device's IP address and a user-agent string (the product name and version) to the server that answers it. No license key, account identifier, or personal profile is sent, and the check does not install anything automatically — it only tells you that a newer version exists and lets you choose to download it.

7. Optional local-network features

Showout can use the local network only when you enable a feature that requires it:

  • OSC control: setting an OSC port opens a bounded UDP listener for tempo, beat, and transport messages. It binds to loopback by default; accepting messages from other LAN devices requires the separate all-interfaces option.
  • NDI receive: feature-enabled builds can discover NDI senders on the LAN and receive the sender you choose as a live video source. Builds without NDI support or without the NDI option do not start discovery.

These features communicate with devices or software you control. They do not send OSC messages, NDI video, media, presets, or project data to Showout LLC or its service providers. Other live-input transports such as cameras, Spout, and the gated DMA-BUF paths are local device or operating-system integrations rather than Showout service egress.

8. Information we do not collect

For clarity, Showout does not:

  • Require or create an account, and does not track you across sessions or devices.
  • Include advertising, ad networks, or third-party marketing trackers.
  • Collect usage analytics, feature telemetry, keystrokes, or screen contents.
  • Sell or share personal information for advertising.
  • Access your microphone or camera except locally, at your direction, as an input source for the visuals you are creating — that audio and video is processed on your device and is not transmitted to us.

9. Legal bases for processing (EU/UK)

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we process personal data on these legal bases:

  • Performance of a contract — activating and validating your license and providing the Software you purchased.
  • Legitimate interests — checking for updates and delivering security and stability fixes, balanced against your privacy (the update check sends no identifier).

Purchase data is processed by Lemon Squeezy as merchant of record under its own bases and policy.

10. International data transfers

We operate from the United States, and the showout.io website and the purchase support records it keeps are hosted there. Purchase data is handled by Lemon Squeezy across the regions described in its privacy policy. If personal data crosses jurisdictions, we use an applicable safeguard, such as an adequacy decision or Standard Contractual Clauses. The first paid release does not transfer crash reports because built-in crash upload is disabled.

11. Data retention

  • Local data (media, presets, settings, local crash records) remains on your device until you delete it.
  • Purchase and license data is retained by Lemon Squeezy per its policy and by us for as long as needed to support your license and meet legal and accounting obligations.

12. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your personal data, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. To exercise any of these, email [email protected].

You can also act directly:

  • Delete local diagnostics and other local data through your operating system's file manager.
  • Export a scrubbed diagnostic report to a local file that you control. Exporting does not transmit it.
  • Manage your purchase data through Lemon Squeezy and its privacy contacts.

We will respond to verified requests within the time required by applicable law.

13. Service providers and sub-processors

We share personal data only with the providers needed to run the Software and the purchase, and only for those purposes:

Provider Purpose Data involved
Lemon Squeezy Merchant of record; payments, tax, and license issuance/validation Name, email, payment and billing/tax location, order and license details
Laravel Cloud (Laravel LLC, on Amazon Web Services) Hosting the showout.io website and the purchase support record Name, email, order and license details; web server logs
Download/update hosting Serving the update check and downloads IP address and user-agent from your request, as with any web server

We do not sell personal information.

14. Security

Internet communication with Showout services or service providers uses encrypted HTTPS. Diagnostic exports remain local unless you choose to share the exported file yourself. OSC and NDI use their respective local-network protocols and should be enabled only on networks you trust. We restrict access to systems that receive personal data.

15. Children's privacy

Showout is a professional creative tool and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact [email protected] and we will delete it.

16. U.S. state privacy rights

We do not sell or "share" personal information as those terms are defined under California and other U.S. state privacy laws, and we do not use personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. Where these laws apply to you, you may exercise the access and deletion rights described in Section 12 by contacting [email protected], and we will not discriminate against you for doing so.

17. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the Software changes or as required by law. Material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date above and posting the new version at https://showout.io/privacy. Continued use of the Software after an update means you accept the revised policy.
