Connect a MIDI controller
Plug in the controller before or after starting Showout. It listens on every MIDI input the system reports and picks up devices when they appear. The top bar reads MIDI ON while one is connected.
Map a control
- Press MIDI ASSIGN in the top bar, or M.
- Click a highlighted target.
- Move the knob or fader, or press the pad.
Esc cancels. A mapped target shows its binding, such as CC21 or N36, and an UNMAP button.
What can be mapped
| Target | MIDI message |
|---|---|
| Crossfader | CC |
| Layer opacity, brightness, contrast, saturation, hue shift, invert | CC |
| Launch a clip cell | CC or note |
| Launch a scene | CC or note |
Mappings are saved in the template. This build does not send MIDI, light controller LEDs or follow MIDI clock.
Tempo and launch timing
- Type a BPM in the Tempo field, from 30 to 300, or press Tap (T) on the beat.
- Each layer has BEAT and BAR toggles. With one on, a launched clip waits for the next beat or bar. With both off, it starts at once.
- Scene launches can also wait for the next beat or bar.
A bar is four beats.
Sync to an OSC clock
OSC is off by default. Set a UDP port when you start the AppImage:
SHOWOUT_OSC_PORT=9000 ./Showout-*.AppImage
That listens on this machine only. To accept OSC from another machine on a trusted network, add SHOWOUT_OSC_ALL_INTERFACES=1:
SHOWOUT_OSC_PORT=9000 SHOWOUT_OSC_ALL_INTERFACES=1 ./Showout-*.AppImage
OSC has no authentication. Do not expose the port to an untrusted network or the internet.
| Address | Argument | Effect |
|---|---|---|
/tempo |
BPM, as a number | Sets the tempo |
/beat |
none | Marks the beat |
/transport/play |
none | Resumes the clock |
/transport/stop |
none | Pauses the clock |
Other addresses are ignored. The top bar reads OSC SYNC while the clock is running and OSC STOP after a stop.
